Okay, I have a fleet of say 4 hulks + an Orca between myself and a few friends to do mining/hauling at the moment, but hunting for ripe asteroid belts in hi-sec grows a little tedious after a while so this is where my question comes in.
Best protection from the occasional pirate or player jump would be what? I have never played a jammer, and tbh we are coming back from a long hiatus, so I'm not sure how effective Jamming is anymore(nor have I EVER used it, always been a pew pew type). My first thought was a stealthed Falcon at range ready to jam up anything that lands in the belt and keeping my ships aligned for a quick exit. My second thought was something with a little more tank/gank like a Curse or Pilgrim, but you get the idea of what my general ship choices would be.
The systems I am looking to mine in contain no stations, and seem lightly trafficed. Also they are islands away from 0.0 to avoid roaming fleets. |

If you want sexy ores you could always find a c1-c2 with a hisec static. you get ark thru veld and generally have much less pirate traffic though you have to be comfortable without local and using dscan. but we use to live in wh's alot and generally much more higher end ores than a few hulks can mine in a day.
It's more about quantities then quality. Lowsec is rarely mined, so most belts are filled to capacity. Pretty much every corner of hisec is heavily mined. Every time we think we found a remote corner 10-15 other people already thought of it lol.
Quote:Don't do it. It's not worth it. With the time it takes to probe down sites and scouting and moving ships around you could be doing isk in highsec in relative safety. If you want more excitement into your mining career, start using the isk from mining to buy cheap pvp ships for your fleet and go to lowsec/nullsec to try some pvp... Here is a nice tutorial how to find good systems to go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFQ7lGxhsWU
We do PvP on a small scale, this is mostly a money making exercise and trying to maximize our profits mining while trying minimizing our risk in lowsec operations. |

I'd need to join an alliance then, not sure I got the time commitment for most. |

Sound advice. I don't know if pouring a billion isk worth of mining equipment into Low-sec would be a smart idea anymore. I was debating grav sites, but all t he low-sec space seems fairly busy nearby me. We have refining skills for Minnie space, and hauling the ore would be a pain.
Debating the alliance thing I guess. Thanks for the advice guys. o7 |
